Shop Our PU Leather Bar Stools

Our bar stool range is built around a simple idea - good looking, practical seating that holds up to daily use without a lot of fuss. Every stool in the Total Direct Furniture collection is upholstered in black PU leather, a material that wipes clean easily, resists scratches and holds its appearance well over time. Whether you're seating one or fitting out a full kitchen island, our PU leather bar stools are available at wholesale prices direct to the public, with every piece on display across our four Melbourne showrooms so you can check the height, the seat comfort and the finish before buying.

If you're furnishing a full dining area alongside, our dining chairs and leather dining chairs are worth browsing to keep the look consistent across the space.

Why PU Leather Works Well for Bar Seating

Bar stools take a different kind of wear to dining chairs. They get climbed on, spun around, pushed back hard against benchtops and wiped down regularly - sometimes with whatever cleaning product is closest. PU leather handles all of that well. It's resistant to spills and stains, easy to wipe clean with a damp cloth and doesn't absorb odours the way fabric can over time. For seating that lives in or around a kitchen, that practicality matters more than most people expect when they're first choosing.

Black PU leather in particular is forgiving in a kitchen setting - it doesn't show every mark, it doesn't fade and it sits naturally alongside most benchtop materials and cabinet finishes without needing much thought. It's a big part of why black leather bar stools remain one of Total Direct Furniture's most consistently popular pieces.

How to Style Black Bar Stools in Your Home

Black bar stools are one of the more versatile pieces you can add to a kitchen or dining space. Against a white or light stone benchtop they create a strong contrast that feels considered rather than accidental. Against darker cabinetry or a black stone bench they blend in and let the rest of the room do the talking. Timber benchtops are another natural pairing - the warmth of the wood against the clean black upholstery creates a balance that works across both contemporary and more relaxed interior styles.

Beyond the kitchen, black PU leather bar stools work well in a home bar setup, a study with a raised desk or a casual dining area where you want something a little more relaxed than a full dining chair. Pairing them with a marble dining table or one of our dining tables in a complementary finish is an easy way to tie a dining and kitchen space together.

Getting the Height and Fit Right for Your Space

Height is the most important practical consideration when choosing a bar stool. As a general guide, you want around 25 to 30cm of clearance between the seat of the stool and the underside of your bench or counter. Most kitchen benches sit between 88 and 95cm high, which means a stool with a seat height of around 60 to 65cm will work for the majority of setups. Bar height counters, which typically sit between 100 and 110cm, need a taller stool in the 70 to 75cm seat height range.

Spacing matters too. Allow around 60cm of bench space per stool so each seat feels comfortable without crowding. If you're fitting stools along an island with seating on one side only, make sure there's enough depth on the seating side for legs to sit comfortably without hitting the cabinet below. At Total Direct Furniture, every stool in our range has full dimensions listed so you can check the fit against your specific bench before committing - and if you'd rather see them in person first, all four of our Melbourne showrooms have them on display.
